2017 Voters List Update

I Register

In February and March, Elections BC updated the voters list to get British Columbians ready to vote in the May 2017 Provincial General Election.

You can register to vote in a provincial election in British Columbia if you are:

  • 18 or older
  • a Canadian citizen
  • a B.C. resident for the past six months

What did Elections BC do to help voters get on the list?

Voter registration notices

Enumeration Notices

In February and March over 1.9 million voter registration notices were sent to addresses across the province. The notices asked voters to go online or call Elections BC if the voter registration information for their address was incorrect.

Registration drives

In March, registration drives were held in malls, campuses, community centres and other high traffic locations throughout B.C.

Door to door registration

In March, Elections BC enumerators went door-to-door in new developments and high-mobility areas to provide voter registration services and information about the election.

Community outreach and partnerships

We worked with partner organizations and conducted speaking engagements across the province to raise awareness about the election, ensure an accessible and inclusive electoral process, and encourage eligible voters to make sure they were on the voters list.

Public awareness and social media

Our “I Register” campaign encouraged voters to get ready for the election and register to vote. We promoted registration on our social channels with the hashtag #GetOnTheListBC.
